At the end of last year, National Training and Development Worker, Marc Besford, travelled to Peterborough to look at setting up a new YCW Group for some young adults and discuss the role of adult companions in the Movement. This was a follow-up to our meeting with the Working Sisters of the Holy House of Nazareth a few months earlier.
Marc spoke to the Group about how to do a Review of Life, structured around the SEE-JUDGE-ACT Method, and described some examples that can be found in our resources. There was a discussion about how this usually works but that fundamentally it is designed to reflect the reality of young people, so can be shaped around particular issues that are brought forward.
Other reviews and enquiries may be based on a particular Gospel passage or time of year in the Church.
In order to show the potential of the YCW and how it can be a transformative experience for young people, Marc also set out his journey with the Movement. This was able to show the work that goes at each level of the YCW, from local Parish Groups to representing the International team on the global stage.
In response to the meeting, Marc said: βIt was wonderful to be invited down to Peterborough by the Sisters and get to speak to so many young adults interested in the YCW. I think it will be a great addition to the area and give them a chance to develop their confidence and leadership skills in their working and social lives. I hope to visit again soon and build the YCW presence in more places around this region of England and Wales.β
